Past Events (Fall 2011 - Winter 2012)
February 2012
Monday, February 13 :: 5-6 pm, 438 WH
Professor Brisa N. Sanchez, from the Department of Biostatistics, came to speak about "Biostatistics: Where Statistics Meet Health -- A Series of Case Studies." In addition to introducing opportunities within the field of biostatistics, Professor Sanchez gave summaries of her research in environmental epidemiology, health disparities, and much more.
January 2012
Monday, January 30 :: 5-6 pm, 438 WH
Nikki Roda, a graduate student in the School of Information, joined us to talk about A2 DataDive. Inspired by Data Without Borders, A2 DataDive is a weekend (Feb 10-12) where people come together to work on big data questions for local non-profits that don't have the resources to analyze on their own. This is a great opportunity to connect with local companies and network with professionals. Spread the word -- anyone who's good with data, programming, or visualization is welcome to come!
Carla Bezold gave a brief talk about the University of Michigan's new Master's Program in Health Informatics -- a joint program of the School of Public Health and the School of Information.
December 2011
Friday, December 9 :: 4-5:30 pm, 438 WH
Just in time for the job/internship hunting season, we had our Resume/Cover Letter Workshop. Professor Ritter, who teaches STATS 404: Effective Statistical Communication, lead the session. Members brought in a few copies of their resume and cover letter, and questions! This was a great opportunity to talk about job/internship opportunities too!
